Capitol Canada 5651 Paperback Writer / Rain

Released at the end of May, 1966.  Pressed by Compo the first few thousand copies were released in an imported U.S. picture sleeve. Remaining copies were released in either a white Capitol sleeve with Capitol in black across the top or a white sleeve with Capitol printed diagonally.

Paperback Writer was written with the intent of being a world wide single release. In most markets, including Canada, it reached number one on the charts.

Interestingly, the B-side "Rain" was promoted in British trade magazines using an image from the "Butcher" photo sessions, but drew little reaction.

U.K. trade n magazine add for "Rain"

There are four variations in the rim text on the label, all focused around the word Canada. Copies can be found with the word Canada in the rim text in brackets on both sides e.g. (Canada). Copies can be found without the brackets on either side. Copies can be found with the brackets around Canada on one side or the other resulting in four variations.

A NM copy of Paperback Writer has a value of $25 - $35.  The picture sleeve in NM condition has a value around $70.  The combined value in NM condition is $90 to $120.
