Canadian pressings on international collectors' want lists.

Often Beatles' collectors focus their collecting on a specific country or region, a vinyl format, on picture sleeves, labels or on a certain era.  The Beatles' phenomenon produced unique vinyl around the globe, including some Canadian pressings, which draw the interest of international collectors.

Nine unique Canadian singles were released on the 7200 series of 45 RPM and a number of them appear on the "want" lists of international collectors.

Capitol 72076 "Love Me Do" is sought after vinyl as it was the first record released in North America attributed to The Beatles.  It also  features Ringo on drums rather than session drummer Andy White. The original 1963 or early 1964 pressing with a handwritten matrix  with no dash and number following is the most desirable pressing for international collectors.

Most Beatles' Canadian pressings released in 1963, notably Capitol 72090,. "Please Please Me", Capitol 72101, "From Me To You" and Capitol 72125, "She Loves You" are on the radar of international collectors.

Two releases from 1964, Capitol 72159 "Do You Want To Know A Secret" and Capitol 72162 "Sie Liebt Dich" also attract international collector interest. Both were pressed in low numbers and Capitol 72159 is often cited as the rarest of the 7000 series 45 RPM.

Sixteen Canadian Beatles' albums released on the Red Target label starting with "Beatlemania" and ending with "The Early Beatles" are popular with International collectors.  The bold and bright red target label is unique to Canada with only Revolver and Y&T issued with the same label in the U.S.

When it comes to original first pressings Canadian albums that draw  the greatest international interest are the first two unique Canadian pressings - "Beatlemania" and "Twist And Shout" while the third is the "Let It Be" box set issued as Apple SOAL 6351.

  1. I collect LPs from around the world, and I think you'll find there is broad interest in the red target labels. They're not too scarce (for the most part), but aside from a handful of US copies of Revolver and Y&T, they are unique to Canada.
