Capitol Canada promotional 45 RPM "Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane"

Capitol of Canada routinely supplied radio stations and DJ's with first pressed stock copies of newly released Beatles' 45 RPM.  No special promotional copies were pressed although it is reported that a few of the earliest copies of "She Loves You" were sent to stations in a Capitol Records promotional "Rush" sleeve.  This practice changed in August, 1967, with the release of "Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields".  For this release Capitol pressed a special white label promotional copy that was intended for radio stations and perhaps reviewers only.

It is generally accepted that no more than 200 copies and perhaps as few as 100 copies were issued making this record a rare and highly prized Canadian Beatles' collectible.

As the majority of these records went to radio stations surviving copies often have added radio station stickers, names and notations on the labels and well played vinyl.  Clean copies are exceptionally rare with possibly a couple of dozen in existence.

Over the last decade not many copies have come up for sale. When they do valuations range from a low of  $250 to a high of $500 placing this release in the top five most valuable Canadian pressed 45 RPM.
