Beatlemania T-6051: A rare pressing on the Capitol green target label

Beginning in 1969 Capitol Of Canada changed their logo to the round target and created a new lime green label design which was used for approximately 18 months until the red target label was introduced.

For a number of years it was believed that the Canadian LP "Beatlemania" was never issued with the lime green target label in favour of the US "Meet the Beatles" LP.

In recent years a number of "Beatlemania" LP's on the green label have turned up. Interestingly the majority are from the United States.  From the pressing ring these LP's appear to be pressed by RCA in Canada.

It has been suggested that these were test pressings by RCA that found their way into retail stores.  A second suggestion is that Beatlemania was to be released with this green label, but prior to the decision being made Capitol switched to the red target label. As a result only a few green label copies made it into stores.  A final suggestion is that a small number were pressed for the US market as the cover was slightly different from "Meet The Beatles" and "Beatlemania" was free of the Dave Dexter added reverb.

No matter the reason a very small number of copies of this L.P. were pressed with this label qualifying it as a rare Canadian Beatles' collectible. This is perhaps the rarest issue of "Beatlemania" if not the rarest copy of any Canadian Beatles album.  The few copies that have come on the market have sold in the $300 to $500 range.
