Released in May, 1964 and probably done so in response to Vee Jay's success in the U.S with the same song pairing. In the U.S. VJ 587 was a million seller and a top three chart hit.
Despite Capitol's usual promotion "Do You Want To Know A Secret" was not a big seller in Canada and did not chart. If released earlier it might have fared better, although Capitol did pace their releases so they were not in competition with each other. Also, it didn't help sales that the b-side had been released in Canada nine months earlier.
The initial pressing for this disc would have been around five thousand copies. As it did not sell well the initial pressing was the only pressing.
For the collector this is a very desirable record. A nice copy of this release is a great find as it is one of the rarer original Beatles' Capitol singles. The disc was issued in a stock matte black Capitol sleeve.
Values range from $40 for a VG+ copy to $400 for a near mint copy.
