Canadian Beatles Capitol swirl label 45 RPM pressed by RCA and Compo

Throughout the 1960's and early 1970's Capitol Records of Canada did not have their own pressing plant. All Capitol and Apple Beatles' singles were pressed by either RCA or Compo.

On the Beatles Capitol orange/yellow swirl singles it is relatively easy to distinguish between the two pressings. On the RCA labels the loop in the letter "L" in the word Capitol is closed or "filled in" while on Compo pressed discs the loop in the "L" is open.

Early Capitol releases were pressed only by RCA while mid 1960's and later copies were pressed by Compo and a few were pressed by both Compo and RCA.

All Canadian Beatles 45's from "Love Me Do" through to "Ticket To Ride" including the  "Four By The Beatles" E.P. were pressed by RCA.

"Help" and "Yesterday"were pressed only by Compo while "Day Tripper" was pressed by both RCA and Compo with the RCA pressing being harder to find. With "Nowhere Man", "Paperback Writer", "Yellow Submarine", "Penny Lane" and "All You Need Is Love" Compo was the sole pressing plant used.

All four Beatles' 1965 releases on Capitol Canada's Starline label were pressed by Compo.

For "Hello Goodbye" Capitol returned to using RCA and for "Lady Madonna" Capitol used both RCA and Compo. Most "Lady Madonna" discs were pressed by Compo making the RCA harder to find. Also harder to find is a later Compo pressings with a dark red swirl label and commonly referred to as a "red Madonna".

Six Beatles' Apple label singles were released in Canada and the  differences between the RCA and Compo pressed issues is addressed in this blog:

Valuations: Looking only at the discs pressed by both RCA and Compo the harder to find issues are the RCA pressed "Day Tripper" and "Lady Madonna" and the Compo pressed "Lady Madonna" with the dark red swirl label. Near mint copies of any of these will sell in the $30 -$70 range.
