Capitol Canada 72146 Twist And Shout / There's A Place

This song pairing was released in February, 1964, in the U.S. on the Tollie label as Capitol U.S. did not yet own the rights to the songs.

"Twist and Shout" was a very popular Beatles song. The band performed it on the Ed Sullivan Show and sang it live at all their North American concerts through 1965.

The Tollie release quickly moved up the charts in the US peaking at number 2 on Billboard held out of number one by Capitol's "Can't Buy Me Love". The U.S. success undoubtedly influenced Capitol of Canada to release this song pairing in mid March, 1964. There was no picture sleeve just the usual matte black Capitol company sleeve.

In Canada it became a huge hit and as Capitol U.S. did not have rights to release these songs many copies of the Canadian pressing were imported into America and available in the northern border states.

In Canada the L.P. "Twist and Shout" was released in early February, 1964. Both sides of this 45 appeared on the album.

Near mint copies of this record have recently sold for a high of $175 although the average selling price is closer to $100.
