Capitol Canada 72133 Roll Over Beethoven / Please Mister Postman

Released in December, 1963, in support and promotion of the "Beatlemania" L.P. this song pairing was a big hit in Canada. As this song pairing was not released in the U.S. by Vee Jay Records or Capitol Records many thousands of copies were exported to America to meet the high demand for anything "Beatles". "Roll Over Beethoven" was also the opening song on the Beatles first American Tour.  In the U.S. demand for this single was strong and even as an import it charted at #68 on the Billboard 100.

Of the four or five Canadian pressed 45 RPM that were imported into the U.S. in 1964, this record is probably the most common.

Early pressings had the handwritten matrix numbers CC1-72133 & CC2-72133.  Later copies had a -2 added to the matrix. Most -2 copies seem to originate from the U.S. and are less common.

Copy exported to the U.S. and sold with a hang-tag.

Export copy and shipping box.

While not released with a picture sleeve a fantasy sleeve for this record has been created, based on the "I Want To Hold Your Hand" east coast U.S. sleeve.

Recent values:

VG+ copies sell in the $8.00 to $12.00 range.  A NM to M copy will sell in the $25.00 to $35.00 range.  A mint copy with a hang tag will be $75.00 to $100.00.  There appears to be no price difference between the earliest pressings and the later -2 copies although the later is much harder to find.

  1. Earlier copies (circa Dec '63) had the glossy sleeve. Later issues had the non glossy sleeve.
