Beatlemania - collectible "wide stereo" version ST-6051

All original pressings of the Beatlemania L.P. from the late 1963 first pressing through to the 1970/71 pressing on the red target label are highly collectible especially in excellent to NM to sealed condition.

Later pressings on the orange, purple and retro rainbow labels draw collector interest, but are not as desirable as the earlier issues. However, among later issues a few are sought after.

One such pressing is Beatlemania ST 6051 on the third generation purple label issued between 1980 and 1983.  This collectible reissue is known as the "wide stereo" pressing as it offers true stereo and superior channel separation.

Beatlemania was originally issued as a mono only L.P.  It remained this way until the 1970's when re-channeled stereo versions or versions with a combination of re-channeled stereo and mono tracks were issued on the orange and early purple labels.

It was not until the third generation purple label in 1980 that a true stereo pressing was released with wide stereo separation.  It is this version that is sought after by collectors.

With three generations of the purple label and some overlap of covers the best way of identifying the "wide stereo" version is by the matrix numbers: ST 6051 A & ST 6051.B.

Recent values for this L.P. in excellent or better condition:

  • 2017 - $45.00
  • 2017 - $40.00
  • 2017 - $49.00
For NM copies (Vinyl/labels/cover) expect to pay closer to $70 and for a sealed copy closer to $100.
